Big Pre-Easter Day

Well we have had quite a day! Matthew especially! We all got up early on this Saturday, 6:30am to get Matthew and Jonathan out the door by 7:15am. Jonathan had to run to work for a short time, which of course Matthew loved. He rarely gets to tag along with Daddy like that.

At 8:30am Matthew had a baseball game. The game ended in a Little-League tie, but he had a great time. He got some hits, some good catches and scored, too. A great game all around for him, and he's really improving every week!

Just after 10am Matthew and Jonathan came home. They got changed for the next thing-- we took Jonathan back to work. Then Mom, Matthew and Colson went north of town to Hobart Park for our church's 10am Easter Egg Hunt and picnic.

We didn't get there until almost 10:45, but fortunately we hadn't missed much. The organizer of the event knew of all the Little League games. She'd scheduled "Open Play Time" at the beginning, then Lunch at 11:15, and THEN the Easter Egg Hunt after noon. Perfect! So when we got there, the boys had time to play. First they enjoyed blowing bubbles with a bunch of other kids:

No parent with a camera can resist a chocolate mouth on their preschooler!

When I took this shot, I was trying to duplicate a similar day with Matthew back in February 2002. Below is a picture from that day:

There used to be a time when Colson would never consider going through a tunnel like this. I'm so glad he had such fun!

After lunch they had the kids walk to another side of the park to play on the playground area (Colson in the tubes). While we were gone, the remaining adults did the Easter Egg hiding. When they were done, the kids were assembled again to walk back. Before we left, our youth minister's wife gave a Christian Easter Egg talk to the children, to remind them (or newly inform them) of the true meaning of Easter.

Colson had his own egg-hunting area. He picked up about 4 eggs and then we headed over to see how Matthew was doing.

Matthew was literally running about, finding lots of eggs.

The boys present their loot-- Matthew's was easier to see, almost overflowing out of the basket! Colson kept his eggs and Matthew turned his in for a bag of Easter candy.

As soon as we got home, Matthew changed into his play shoes and started romping around outside with the neighborhood kids. As I type this, he's been out there for over four hours and is covered in mud! The guys are making a "fort" and he's calling it the "Private Official Agency". I love seeing him out like this, and it's full-fun days like this that are just priceless in irreplaceable.

If you click on the photo and look at it up close, he's got tons of dirt on his legs and hands. We'll probably have to hose him off by the time he gets back in the house!
