Today's big event was all about Jonathan. He had a big exam today-- the evaluation for his Multi-Engine pilot certification. Basically, can he fly airplanes with two propellers?
He did some "brush up" studying for three hours this morning, and then he went in for his oral exam, which lasted for 2 to 2 1/2 hours. He only missed one question in that session. In the written test, which had 50 or so questions, he got 100% of them right. And of course he aced his actual flying as Pilot-in-Command. He really knows his stuff!
He came out of the school admin building just beaming with joy. He was so happy, and rightfully proud of his accomplishment. He got lots of kisses, high fives and hugs from us. And of course, a yummy new Rachael Ray meal for dinner!
Yea, JH! We're so proud of you!
The next hurdle for him will be earning his Instrument Rating, which is very important. Basically, can you fly the plane with the windows blacked out, like in a fog bank? John F. Kennedy, Jr. attended Flight Safety just like Jonathan and neglected to get this rating done. As we saw from John's tragic end, this is a crucial one to complete. And I know JH will do a great job with this one. In fact, with all the experience he's racked up over the years, I expect he'll get it finished in no time.
Cute moment: When Matthew heard that Jonathan had completed the multi-engine certification, he was most excited about Jonathan earning another stripe on his shoulder boards. "So Dad, does that mean you get another stripe?" he said. Jonathan chuckled and replied, "Yes, son, it does." Matthew cheered, "Yea!! Another stripe!" and eagerly looked forward to that addition to Jonathan's shoulders. I guess it's like a really grown-up version of a merit badge in his six year-old mind!
Once again, I'm so thankful we're here and amazed at how much has changed in just a few months...
