My Grandpop Sully

My grandfather's obituary, to be printed tomorrow:

Raymond C. Sullivan Sr. ("Sully") died early morning May 3, 2006 at Oakdale Heights Assisted-Living facility Charlotte, North Carolina. He had declining health over the past 2 years. His poor old lungs and heart just couldn't do their thing any longer and despite all of the wonderful care provided by the staff at Carolinas Medical Center in Pineville North Carolina as well as the caring staff at Oakdale Heights Assisted-Living, he passed from this world. He will be sorely missed by his children: daughters, Christina Woodside, of Charlotte North Carolina and Dr. Ellen Mitchell of Seattle Washington; son Raymond C. Sullivan, Jr. M.D. of Greensboro North Carolina; His five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; His Loving Sister-in-law Emma Sullivan and niece Pam Sullivan of Margate, N.J.; Edward and Ronnie Sullivan of Brick, New Jersey as well as his many friends in the Florida Keys. Sully grew up in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, moved to North Miami Florida in 1949 and retired to Islamorada Florida ("Paradise") where he resided for over 30 years. He was a jack of all trades. He loved the water, the balmy breezes and especially the 85+ degree weather. He pulled his share of crab pots and made lots of people happy eating his stone crab claws. He loved to dive and fish and do the things that the Keys Folks do. He loved to read. He made up for lost time reading after his cataract extractions over 20 years ago. He probably read more books in his last 20 years than he did his first 75 years. His final wish was for donations to the Islamorada Public Library, in lieu of flowers. God rest your soul Sully.
